Byron Stephan Cole
Byron Stephan Cole is a New Orleans-based community activist, former mayoral candidate, and social justice advocate. Born and raised in the Seventh Ward, Cole is the son of the late Dyan French Cole ("Mama D"), who served as the first female president of the NAACP in New Orleans during the 1970s and was widely recognized as a fiery civil rights advocate.
Cole ran for Mayor of New Orleans in 2017 and 2021 on platforms centered on economic growth, criminal justice reform, fair wages, and systemic relief. He has described himself as "the only grassroots candidate willing to address racism and inequality with a comprehensive strategy for reform."
Through social media and direct civic engagement, Cole advocates for transparency in local government, youth empowerment, and community accountability. He encourages both youth and adults to critically assess how systemic power structures affect their daily lives.
